UGN is a North American supplier of acoustic materials used by automotive OEMs to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness inside vehicles. Their products shape what drivers hear - and don't hear - every time they get behind the wheel. The company works at the manufacturing level, supplying components that end up inside some of the most recognized vehicles on the road.
The Challenge
The first impression UGN made in a sales meeting was not their product.
UGN had an interactive demo where users could explore automotive components on a 3D car model. It ran. It technically did what it was supposed to do. But the visuals were flat, the navigation required hand-holding, and there was no audio - notable for a company whose entire product line is about how sound behaves inside a vehicle.
For trade shows and OEM presentations, this created friction before the conversation even started. People in the room needed an explanation of how to use the tool before they could engage with what the tool was showing them.
For a company selling precision acoustic engineering, that gap between product quality and digital presentation was costing them credibility where it mattered most.

From CAD to Real-Time: The Asset Challenge
This is the part most clients do not anticipate, and most vendors do not handle well.
UGN provided their 3D models in CAD file format - the kind used for manufacturing and physically producing automotive parts. CAD files are built for fabrication precision, not real-time rendering. They carry massive polygon counts and exist in formats Unity cannot use directly.
IDE Interactive had to convert and optimize every asset: reducing polygon counts, rebuilding geometry where needed, and transforming manufacturing-grade files into real-time 3D assets that Unity could render smoothly - without losing the visual fidelity that makes the demo worth looking at.
This is a technical translation problem that sits between two very different disciplines. Getting it wrong means either a demo that chugs and stutters or one that looks like a rough approximation of the actual product. Getting it right required genuine craft. It is the kind of work that is invisible when done well, and immediately obvious when it is not.

The Platform Decision
The rebuild was done in Unity 3D. It handles complex 3D environments with the visual responsiveness that trade show demos require. It is cross-platform and scalable, which means UGN is not locked into a single hardware configuration for deployment. And it gave IDE Interactive the flexibility to build the UI/UX from the ground up rather than working around an existing framework's limitations.

Redesigning the Interface
The original demo worked like a diagram. Users clicked a hotspot and got information. That is fine for reference material, but not for a sales environment. The rebuilt interface was designed for flow. Vehicle interaction became fluid. Component selection was redesigned to feel intuitive rather than instructional. The visual treatment balanced technical depth with clarity - meaning the demo could hold its own with an engineer who wants details while remaining accessible to someone in procurement or executive leadership who wants to understand value without decoding a manual.

Adding Audio
This was not a nice-to-have. For a company that makes products designed to change what people hear inside vehicles, a silent demo was a missed argument. The rebuilt demo includes background music and voice-over narration. The audio layer lets the product story unfold without someone having to narrate it manually in the room. For a trade show floor where a rep cannot stand next to every person who interacts with the demo, narration becomes a quiet sales tool.
